O'Hara wins Sligo Sports Award for 2002
Sligo talisman and captain Eamon O'Hara has been chosen as the overall winner in the Sligo Sports Awards for 2002, an awards scheme organised by Sligo Weekender in association with Ulster Bank.
This is the second time that the Tourlestrane native has received this honour, as he also gleaned the top prize for his exploits in 2001.
The displays of the 27-year-old Gaelic footballer helped ignite Sligo's path to the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final where they were denied a semi-final berth by virtue of a replay defeat to Armagh, the eventual winners.
O'Hara, who also played for Ireland in the International Rules Series against the Australians, was rewarded with a place on the All-Stars selection for 2002, following the example set by Sligo legends Mickey Kearins and Barnes Murphy in the 1970s.
