Devenney threatens to quit for a year

Donegal GAA star Brendan Devenney is considering taking a year out from Gaelic football to concentrate on soccer with Finn Harps.

Devenney, who will likely be on the bench against Limerick City at Jackman Park on Sunday, is seriously thinking of not playing for Donegal until 2004.

Devenney said: "As it is I¹m contracted up until the end of this season with Harps which is late January. But if Harps are in the promotion shake up, then play-offs could last a few weeks longer, bringing us up near enough to the start of the new summer soccer league in April.

"I¹m happy with the soccer and I get on well with Jon (Jon Speak, Harps manager) and the board at Harps so maybe it¹s time to make a choice. It would put a few GAA noses out of joint but I have to think of myself too."
