Whelahan interested in Offaly job
Birr supremo Pat Joe Whelahan has finally thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Offaly senior hurling manager's position.
Whelahan had a stint in charge of Offaly in the late 1990s and is now the name on everyone's lips to take over for a second term in the wake of Fr Tom Fogarty's departure.
Whelahan confirmed: "I've been interviewed and I made them an offer that I'd take the two teams, senior and U21, like I did before in '89."
County board secretary Christy Todd said: "We have met with and spoken to a number of candidates, but there is no final decision made yet, and it will be a week or so before we make any decision."
