Injured Jackie Tyrrell and Richie Power out of clash with Waterford, says Brian Cody
Tyrrell had a stress fracture in his foot operated on yesterday, while Power is “not in the frame” for the semi-final, according to Cats boss Brian Cody.
“Jackie’s out of the equation,” said Cody. “He certainly has no part to play on Sunday week. That’s for certain.
“It’s hard to know how long the thing will take after the operation but they’re talking about three or four weeks for certain.
“He’s huge. You just have to look at his record and his experience as well. He brings a huge amount to the thing. But that’s it.
“He’s not going to be a part of it and that’s unfortunate.
“He just was running in a straight line. It’s a stress fracture. He didn’t get a bang or anything. He just was hit with an immediate pain and that was it.”
Similarly, attacker Richie Power will not figure against the Déise.
“Richie is not in the frame. He’s had a really interrupted season this year. He has had no game time, virtually, at all. He’s putting in terrific work behind the scenes and he’s really determined and that.
“He deserves great credit for the way he’s going at it. He’s getting setbacks along the way. He’s definitely ruled out for the next game.”
Cody was unsure about the availability of Michael Fennelly, who has struggled with a back problem all year: “Michael’s season has been very interrupted. He’s not back in training yet either at all. He played against Wexford and played very, very well against Wexford.
“He missed the Galway match and since then, his training has been limited to just non hurling. Just trying to get to the stage where he can get back taking part.
“Whether he can be involved, I just don’t know.”
