Keel turn on power to see off Pat’s

Keel, making light of the loss of star forward Kieran Foley to injury, made no mistake at the second time of asking at Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday evening when defeating St Pat’s in their Kerry JFC semi-final replay (2-14 to 1-10).

St Pat’s had the better start and led 0-4 to 0-2 after 10 minutes thanks to points from David O’Callaghan and Kieran Hurley. But Keel started to dominate at midfield and with Liam Sheehan and Gary Sayers influential, the game soon swung in the Mid Kerry side’s favour, with goals from Sayers and Eoin O’Connor for a 2-6 to 0-6 interval lead.

Despite a spirited second half display from St Pat’s, Keel finished in style to set up an all Mid Kerry final with Glenbeigh Glencar.

In a sub standard IFC semi-final Currow were grateful to the accuracy of John Buckley and the pace of Seamus Brosnan as they defeated Skellig Rangers 0-10 to 0-8 in Killorglin and now face the Bryan Sheehan-led St Mary’s in the final.

Skellig Rangers raced five points to one up by the 15th minute. Currow clawed their way back into the game and the sides were level (0-5 apiece) at the break.

Currow should have been ahead but a well-struck penalty by Mike Hanafin was turned around the post by Padraig O’Sullivan.

Despite the efforts of veterans Bryan Hickey and Stephen O’Sullivan, Skellig Rangers had nothing up front, and final quarter points from Mike McCarthy, Ian Somers and Buckley were enough to see Currow prevail.
