Mayo fans set to put green and red hue on the Hill

Mayo will have a strong presence in Hill 16 for Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC final.

Mayo fans set to put green and red hue on the Hill

Croke Park allocated just under 4,000 tickets to Mayo clubs for the 13,000-capacity section of Croke Park synonymous as a stronghold for Dublin fans.

Typically opposition supporters swap Hill tickets with their Dublin counterparts but Mayo PRO Aiden McLoughlin believes it is a case of ‘what we have we hold’ for many travelling from the west.

McLoughlin explained: “There’ll definitely be a few thousand Mayo supporters in the Hill but they’ll probably be in a section off to one side. They won’t be scattered all around the Hill. We heard there was a bit of a campaign after the semi-final, some Mayo supporters were demanding their allocation of Hill tickets. Obviously the Hill tickets cost half the normal ticket price so people wanted them.”

McLoughlin stressed the board had not specifically asked for Hill 16 tickets but such is the demand no ticket would be returned to headquarters.

“The Hill tickets came down in our allocation, it wasn’t as if we asked for them specifically,” said McLoughlin.

Mayo clubs are in the process of distributing their tickets after receiving their allocation on Monday night.

The county’s 1,400 season-ticket holders were given their tickets last week while armed gardaí were present at MacHale Park to handle the €500,000 paid over.

Cairde Mhaigh Eo members were given the option of two tickets if they renewed their membership for next season, which many did.
