Three years ago Cork claimed an All-Ireland title at this level with an injury-time goal by Colm O’Driscoll ensuring they stole the honours from Down in Portlaoise.

The following year there was no shortage of drama either in Kingspan Breffni Park when Dublin lifted the title after Donegal talismanic attacker Michael Murphy saw his penalty effort at the finish cannon against the crossbar.
