Goals in each half from the corner-forward looked to have set them up for an easy win as they led by 2-11 to 1-8, but though Duhallow pulled level, the East Cork division finished strongly.
In front of a meagre crowd at Mallow, the sides were level at 0-3 when Séamus Whelan put the north-west division ahead with a goal in the 14th minute.
Imokilly responded with a Podge Butler point, tipped over by Anthony Nash, but the Cork reserve goalkeeper could do nothing soon after when Barry Lawton’s shot flew past him.
Further frees from Patrick O’Regan increased Imokilly’s lead to four points, but nice efforts from Kieran Sheahan left Duhallow two behind, 1-7 to 1-5, at half-time.
Lawton struck for his second goal to give Imokilly a 2-11 to 1-8 lead before points by Sheahan and Denis Roche had Duhallow back in it. Then Sheahan goaled to make it 2-11 to 2-10 before Roche equalised.
Duhallow wouldn’t score again though, a pair of Lawton points central to Imokilly’s resurgence as they finished six-point winners. Duhallow now play the losers of tomorrow night’s UCC-Carbery clash.
