Canning back for Limerick IT

GALWAY hurling star Joe Canning is set for a return to the third-level arena with Limerick IT in this year’s Fitzgibbon Cup.

The Portumna player did not feature for the LIT in last season’s competition and his availability is a major boost to the side, coached by Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald.

LIT face holders UL in their opening Group C clash on February 2. Canning won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal with the college in 2007 but suffered defeat in the final in 2008 against Waterford IT despite scoring 1-16 in that clash.

Meanwhile former Cork All-Ireland IHC winning manager Sean O’Brien is set to take the reins of Cork club Na Piarsaigh.
