August talks to examine hurling league structure
The current system of an eight-team Division One and an eight-team Division Two is under the microscope with players and management from the likes of Clare, Limerick and Wexford claiming their development has been stunted in the lower tier.
It is understood delegates from some counties lobbied extensively at last weekend’s Central Council meeting for an overhaul of the system to allow them compete alongside the hurling’s elite next spring.
Meanwhile the Munster Council have confirmed the venues for this year’s provincial finals programme with the Bord Gáis Energy U21HC final set for either Cusack Park, Ennis or Limerick’s Gaelic Grounds on August 3rd.
The winners of the semi-final between Limerick and Clare on July 20th will have home advantage for the decider. Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney and Páirc Uí Chaoimh will host the senior football and senior hurling showpieces respectively on July 3rd and July 10th.
The first Munster IHC final between Limerick and Clare since 1927 will be held in Cusack Park on July 13th, while seven days previously Cork play Kerry Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the Munster JFC final.
