Coughlan praises abolition of seeding

THE abolition of the seeding system in the Munster football championship has galvanised the competition’s minnows according to Tipperary centre back Hugh Coughlan

Coughlan praises abolition of seeding

“It’s a massive incentive” Coughlan enthuses. “The year previous they were seeding Cork and Kerry which was very unfair. This year it’s ideally placed with Cork and Kerry on one side, so it gives an incentive to ourselves, Limerick and Clare as well. Our current focus is on Limerick though. They beat us in last year’s championship. We’re not looking too far ahead. We’re not judging ourselves on the Corks and Kerrys of this world yet.”

Coughlan, who won an All-Ireland club title with St Vincent’s last year, was part of Tipperary’s back-to-back promotion-winning achievements in the league, earning him an Opel GPA Player of the Month award yesterday. However, he admits the Premier County’s Division Three heroics could be a double edged sword.
