O’Mahony’s wait for verdict on positive drugs test goes on

The committee adjourned early yesterday to consider submissions from the hearing, which relate to the Kerry player’s positive test for salbutamol after the All-Ireland football final against Tyrone last September.

The final decision of their deliberations will be released at a later date and the GAA have declined to comment further in the interim period.

Meanwhile the 2008 Cork senior hurling panel are set to use facilities in Mourneabbey as part of their training schedule over the coming weeks. The panel, who are refusing to play under current Cork boss Gerald McCarthy, had been holding training sessions amongst themselves on Saturday mornings in Mallow before Christmas and are now set to conduct midweek sessions at the Clyda Rovers grounds in Mourneabbey.

An EGM was held on Monday night in Mourneabbey amongst local sporting groups to determine whether the field, which is used by the local community for various sports, would be leased to the hurling squad for training. The vote taken was overwhelmingly in favour of allowing the players to use the facilities. Floodlights are currently being erected on the pitch and it is expected to be ready to be used in two weeks.
