GAA player grants safe

THE Minister for Sport, Martin Cullen, yesterday dismissed speculation that the 3.5m grants scheme for GAA players, which was agreed last year, was under any threat as a result of any cutbacks brought about by the current economic climate.

Speaking after the presentation of the Irish Olympic team he insisted that there was no foundation to the speculation in some quarters.

“There are absolutely no plans to cut the grants to the GAA players and that’s what I said in the Dáil yesterday,” he said when asked about the situation.
