Formula One: Both Jordans and Irvine fail to finish

Ralf Schumacher emerged victorious at the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheim track today but the focus of attention is on those who failed to finish the race.

Michael Schumacher, who was hoping to equal Alan Prost's record of 51 race wins today, crashed out on the first lap of today's race and earned a reprieve when race stewards decided to have the race restarted.

However, the German still failed to finish in his home Grand Prix.

David Coulthard, Schumacher's closest rival for this year's Drivers Championship, failed to capitalise on the Ferrari driver's slip-up when he also failed to complete the race.

Other drivers who failed to finish included the two Jordans of Jarno Trulli and Ricardo Zonta, the Jaguar of Eddie Irvine, the driver who qualified in pole position, Juan Pablo Montoya and the McLaren of Mika Hakkinen.

The younger Schumacher managed to avoid the misfortunes of other drivers to claim the race ahead of Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello, with Jaques Villeneuve in third place in a race which had only 10 finishers.
