Goulane gunning for revenge
Despite missing the kick somewhat, Brogan Henry made the most of what was a plum draw in the semi-finals, taking advantage of some first-bend trouble to run out a very impressive eight-length winner from Goulane Rex.
However, in a complete reversal of fortune it would appear that Goulane Rex now enjoys the best of the draw and he can be expected to take full advantage.
Drawn on the rails, he has the pace to hold his own in the early stages and if he can turn the corner unscathed, it’s going to take a huge performance to prevent his stamina gaining the day.
Brogan Henry is not lightly dismissed but he will need to be on his toes to clear some very smart early pacers drawn on his inside. Nevertheless, he rates the danger.
The best drawn dog of the night is Castlelyons Ralf in race three, and this brilliantly consistent sort is a very confident selection to make the most of it. Witches Peter is the one to give him most to do.
Race five is the final of the Curraheen A5 525 and Cleanaway Rodge gets the nod to maintain his unbeaten record. The imposing tracker looks ideally drawn on the wide outside and a repeat of his semi-final form should be enough. The pace he showed to halfway was mightily impressive and if he gets his best break, he should build up a sizeable advantage once more.
Avici, who posted 28.66 in the first round but was beaten in the semi-final, would be a danger granted a clear run.
