Darrer’s delight at victory at RCYC
With a modest southerly breeze, the main fleet went off on course 94 out to Roches while the Whitesails went on Course 93 out to W3. As the evening wore on, the breeze died, resulting in many finishing in the twilight.
IRC and ECHO 1 went to Martin Darrer’s True Penance with Rioal Lyden’s X-332 Ellida in second ahead of Frank Doyle’s Endgame in IRC and Mary O’Keefe’s Tux in ECHO.
IRC 2 went to Ted Crosbie’s No Excuse ahead of Mark Mendell’s Wicked with Paul and Deirdre Tingle’s Alpaca third.
In ECHO, Wicked took first ahead of Len Donnery’s No Gnomes with No Excuse third. Paul Murray’s Promethious took first in both ECHO and IRC, just pipping Jimmy Nyhan’s Outrigger in IRC and the Sullivan brothers on Running Wild in ECHO.
Whitesail ECHO went to Seamus Gilroy’s Split Point with Peter Webster’s Thistle second and Tadgh Lynch’s Lady T in third. IRC went to Split Point with Ian Hickey’s Cavatina second and Pat Vaughan’s Aramis third.
Friday saw a complete change of wind direction with a brisk north westerly for Race 17 of the Victoria Cross Cycles Whitesail League.
With winds over 20kts the beat down to No. 12 on course 93 a few mainsails spilled in a great night’s sailing. Paul O’Shea’s Elegance took first ahead of Wietze Buwalda’s Raith na Cailce and Arthur Baker’s Irish Mist 1.
There was a flurry of activity on both days at the RCYC At Home Regatta. Class 1 IRC and ECHO went to John Downing’s Samba ahead of True Pennance with Ellida taking third.
Class 2 IRC was won by Vinny O’Shea’s Yanks & Franks ahead of Alpaca with Desmond Deasy Iver’s Bad Company in third while in ECHO it was Bad Company ahead of Wicked and Yanks & Franks.
IRC 3 went to Aidan McSweeney’s J24 Maximus ahead of Outrigger with Sarah Hyde’s Junebug taking third. In ECHO it was Junebug who saw off the challenge of Fast Buck with Outrigger taking third. Whitesail went to Tom and Conor McNiece on Minx 111 ahead of Batt O’Leary’s Sweet Dreams with Barry Crockett’s Upstart third.
The 25th Glandore Inn Rosebowl sailed last weekend. The club fleet was augmented by boats from Dublin, Phantom and Seabird, and from Kinsale Valkyrie. Seabird, sailed by Sean Kingston, Donal Small and Ben Fusco was the runaway winner with Phantom sailed by Peter Bowering, Laura and Arthur Meighan second. Valkyrie, sailed by Paddy Bishop came in third.
