The last time I went to watch Galway United play in what was then Terryland Park, it was a pre-season friendly against Sunderland. Though I'm unsure when that was exactly, I have narrowed it down to a date between 1995 and 1997, as David Ned Kelly played that evening during what I assumed was many spells at the Black Cats, but turns out was his only one.

In the 27 years since, I've peered in off the Quincentennial Bridge at the floodlit ground on Friday nights and wondered less about what might be happening on the pitch, and more about what kept me from going.
