Fogarty Forum: Back-to-back final weekends erode hurling and football

Limerick's Darragh O'Donovan says the National Hurling League goes on too long and there should be a cap on the amount of game time each player is allowed in the competition

For the second year in a row, Jack O’Connor organised Kerry’s All-Ireland press conference for the Saturday of All-Ireland hurling final weekend. In 2022, Brian Cody stepped down on the eve of the football decider. Two great men but there wouldn’t be much love lost for the other code.

The GAA’s own affection for its sports most certainly comes under the microscope as it persists with one All-Ireland final weekend after another. As poor a spectacle as Sunday’s hurling decider was, Limerick are far more deserving than the couple of days’ attention they will receive.
