After Mayo’s performance in the All-Ireland quarter-final replay over Roscommon last Sunday week, it was hard not to be impressed with their resolve. Talk of their imminent implosion appeared premature, writes Mike Quirke.

After the game, I tweeted that Mayo had made a big statement with the manner of their performance, and that they were gone nowhere. I was referring to their sustained position as a top four championship team, in the past decade especially.

Obviously, for some that was just too much to handle… another blatant example of co- ordinated ‘cute Kerry hoorism’ came the cries. The ‘yerrah’ group were starting early, and so on, and so on.
