Jones looks set to return for Munster
It is understood that the 24 year-old Dublin native has recovered full fitness from the ankle ligament injury sustained in his first start for Ireland against England at the Aviva Stadium on August 20 that cost him his place in the World Cup squad.
Jones was set to feature for Shannon in Saturday’s All-Ireland League game against Lansdowne on Saturday except that it is being played on the all-weather pitch at the Aviva and Munster weren’t prepared to take any further chances with his fitness.
The likelihood is that he will now return in the AIL game against Young Munster under the Thomond Park floodlights on Friday week, although he could also be called up by the province for their away fixture against Italian side Aironi on the same weekend.
Jones has endure an injury nightmare since linking up with Munster in 2009. His first setback came when he injured his neck in the game against Connacht at Thomond Park in December 2009. He eventually returned against Ospreys in September 2010 only to severely damage his knee against the Ospreys and was sidelined until the World Cup preparatory games in August 2011. Having made his mark with fine performances off the bench against Scotland and France, he tore ligaments in his ankle against England and hasn’t played since. A brilliant, natural footballer, Jones is just one of a number of long term injured Munster players overdue a change of fortune over.
