It’s amusing how the build-up generates so much excitement and anticipation, only to fall short of the promised or imagined hype. It happens so often in all sports that you sometimes wonder if the buildup is worth the effort.

For some unknown reason, though, the clashes in racing are delivering right now, even if they are not following the script. It’s remarkable, even in horse racing, or perhaps especially in horse racing, that failure seems to continually triumph over victory.
