Sitting someone in the corner might be considered unfavourable in the context of socialising, but when it comes to housing location it’s a prime feature. And when it’s a four-bed you’re talking about, a detached house in a small cul-de-sac of just six homes, then it’s a real win, a treasure if you will.

No 4 Willsford in Castletreasure, Douglas, was built just two years ago. The Property Price Register shows it was bought then for €634,361. The current owners are relocating within the area so this is a good chance for anyone who missed out on buying one of these homes to get another shot at it.

There has been only one resale here so far — that was in December last year for €850,000.

Interest so far is coming from younger families and couples keen to trade up in the area, notes auctioneer and valuer, Michael Pigott.

There’s an energy-efficient air-to-water heat pump system with zoned heating controls contributing to the A energy rating.

The zone theme continues in the large kitchen/ dining room which also has room for a couch and TV. Warm-toned solid oak flooring helps keep it feeling like a welcoming space though. And Mr Pigott says the large slider doors to the back garden are a standout feature for him: “There is just great natural light in this living area and kitchen, it’s gorgeous. And at the front you have that lovely arched picture window at the half landing which is a very attractive feature.”

The stairs and upstairs are carpeted and all four bedrooms have built-in wardrobes. The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom and there’s Stira access to the attic from the landing.

Going to town is straightforward with the 207 bus stop only 370m away at Scairt Cross. And ‘getting out of town’ is relatively easy too with an eight-minute spin through Farmers Cross to get to Cork Airport.

It’s less than 2km down Donnybrook hill to Douglas village and if you prefer to stay ‘up above’ then it’s about a five-minute drive to a collection of supermarkets and food options in Grange.

VERDICT: An attractive blend of semi-rural feeling but with city and suburban conveniences a very short distance away
