Garden Digest: Events to help you boost the room outside

  • Macroom Flower & Garden Club will host an illustrated gardening talk with guest speaker Hester Forde of Coosheen Garden titled ‘Treasures of Spring-Bulb Planting. It takes place on Thursday, October 12, at 8pm at Coolcower House. The event includes club competitions and a sales table. Visitors welcome. The club also hosts its gala charity demonstration on Thursday, November 9. For details call 087-9821708.
  • Community Gardens Ireland will host its autumn gathering at the Glen Resource & Sport Centre in Cork city on Saturday, October 14, from 11am to 4pm. The event will launch the first-ever national Allotments and Community Gardens Week in Ireland which runs from October 14 to October 21. This year’s theme is Growing with Nature.
  • Ladysbridge & District Flower & Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, October 16, at 8pm. The event features a floral demonstration and Halloween work night. All welcome. Guest €10.
  • Ballincollig Flower and Garden Club hosts a floral demonstration Idle Hands by Ali Dietrich, AOIFA, at Gaelscoil Uí Ríordáin (P31 V242) on Thursday, October 19, starting at 8pm. Visitors, €10, and refreshments included. Teaching demo at 7.40pm. All welcome.
  • The Owenabue Garden and Flower Club, Carrigaline, will host its Autumn Decorative Show on Monday, October 23, at 8pm in St. Mary’s NS, Waterpark, Carrigaline. Margaret Ahern, AOIFE, will deliver a floral demonstration titled Autumn Glory. All are welcome, visitors €7.
  • Kinsale Garden and Flower Club will host an event titled A Grower’s Guide to Growing Cut Flowers with Flicky Howe of Howe Hill Farm. It takes place on Thursday, October 12, at 8pm. Visitors welcome and the event includes competitions and refreshments.
  • Bosco’s Garden Tour takes place on Saturday, October 28, at 11am at its permaculture market gardens, homestead and food forests. Bosco’s Garden is located in Goslingstown, Kilkenny. It’s a small market garden and food forest established in 2020. It’s run by husband-and-wife team Shane and Kay Hatton, who have a passion for real food and nature.
