Stay in Tralee for €1m

A Tralee town hotel, built 20 years ago, is for sale for €1m via joint selling agents, acting for a receiver.

Although it ceased trading earlier this year, Tralee’s Central Hotel could be back in business with minimum spend, says Savills’s Denis O’Donoghue, acting with local agent, Ger Carmody, in the sale of the 100-bed hotel, which previously traded as the Abbeygate Hotel and which had Carlton hotel links.

Location is by Maine Street, Denny Street and the Mall (home to Penneys and Dunnes), and it is a three-storey building, built in 1994, with 40 car parking spaces.

It’s a three-star hotel, with restaurant, two bars and function room for up to 260. Rated 12th out of 14 Tralee hotels by Tripadvisor, it is being sold on behalf of Aidan Murphy, receiver, in Crowe Horwath. The Central Hotel closed for business in early 2014, “but requires minimal investment to reopen,” notes Savills’ Mr O’Donoghue, while Ger Carmody says Tralee has a population of 21,000, making it Kerry’s largest town, with a host of tourism attractions an range of employers.

“This is a good-quality hotel asset and represents a unique opportunity to acquire a 100-bed hotel business, requiring minimal start-up costs, in an excellent business and leisure location,” says Mr O’Donoghue.
