Woman's place is in this home

Tommy Barker has something that may tempt a single female.

CORK SWF isn't a London SW1-type address it is a state of mind and status of a certain type of house viewer.

The terraced home 4 Beechwood Place, on Cork's Douglas Road, is getting a heavy concentration of swooning SWFs - Single White Females, to use the dating acronym.

It is currently getting about 40 viewings a week, and estate agent Tim Sullivan has noted from the start that most of the interest is coming from women, many of them single buyers with good earning potential.

This category of house viewers might tempt single male auctioneers, but in this particular case the selling agent is himself no longer on the market, so to speak, having taken the matrimonial plunge in the past year. So, back to the house....

Appearance of this smartly-dressed terraced property deceives: it is more accommodating that its facade suggests, and has as its real selling point rear access to a walled-in garden with large garage and an electric roller shutter for access from the lane behind, so the busyness of the main road outside is less of a factor.

The garden is a south-facing sun-trap, and has just enough lawn to spread a picnic blanket out on an electric strimmer would keep it neat, so no need for a lawnmower.

Two-storey town cottage in style, it has three first floor bedrooms plus a bathroom, and while none of the bedroom are overly large, none is a box room.

The ground floor has a front-to-back sitting room, 21' by 12' with antique fireplace and surround, a sisal carpet and crisp white-painted wood detailing.

The central hallway has original floor tiles, and off to the left of the hall is a dining room, painted a pampas green, and has a narrow brick and timber fire-piece.

Behind, is a bright kitchen cum breakfast room, and a long narrow utility off this leads to the garden and patio, with small storage sheds to the side.

It is a ready to move into job, with replaced windows, gas central heating, and the quoted price region of €295,000 will certainly be nudged into the low €300,000s mark. After that, may the best woman win.
