As the world veers closer to the right and the isms - particularly racism, fascism and consumerism - we are in dire need of two essential entities; balance and respect for each others right to live in peace and comfort.

The rampant advertising fueled pre Christmas consumption of goods and goodies sat in uneasy contrast to poverty and homelessness.

Shoppers and partygoers walked past poor people sleeping on the streets.

The coexistence of wealth and poverty is not only inequitable but dangerous.

As Aristotle said "Poverty is the parent of crime and revolution.”

My hope for this decade is the restoration of balance and respect. We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools as warned by Martin Luther King.
