Foreshore plan is a speculators’ charter
If the proposed demolition of the existing Dun Laoghaire sea baths, together with the reclamation of 5.5 acres of foreshore for a ten-floor apartment and shopping complex, is allowed proceed, then what is in store for the other baths dotted around Dublin Bay?
Take, for example, the disused sea baths in Sandymount.
If the Dun Laoghaire plan gets the go-ahead, then the schemers and speculators will view Sandymount as an even more desirable plot of real estate.
A few acres of reclaimed foreshore would get rid of those smelly mudflats from the Martello Tower to Blackrock Park. Two or three hundred nice apartments would provide a much better view than those unsightly container ships.
And of course those lucky enough to have a yacht could berth it at the new marina before heading off to the relocated Blackrock shopping centre!
It is vitally important that all Dubliners unite to oppose the monstrosity being proposed for Dun Laoghaire.
If the cabal of planners, councillors and speculators get their way in that instance, then every baths, from Bray right around the coast to Clontarf, will be fair game for destruction.
