Right decision for the wrong reason

VICTIMS, as well as all true democrats, rejoice at the British Government’s withdrawal of the iniquitous on-the-runs measure. This represents the defeat of lawlessness and the honouring of what is right.

However, the bill was withdrawn for no other reason than that IRA/SF had rejected it. This implies that Blair and his henchmen would have proceeded with it if terrorists had given it their support.

It also suggests that democratic politics has survived the onslaught of the Blair administration another time, but one wonders what infamous schemes they will dream up in the future.

Only democracy can save Britain’s democracy from Blairism. It is time for a general election.
