As long as US President George W Bush continues to pursue his aggressive energy policy, increasingly extreme weather phenomena will destroy property and lives.

Will Americans wait until crude oil tops $100 a barrel before there is pressure to invest much more in alternative energy sources which do not contribute to global warming. Neither do they help destabilise the Middle East and other sensitive developing countries such as Nigeria, Ecuador and Venezuela.
