BIG British chains are ripping us off and will continue to do so unless the Irish-owned chains offer more meaningful competition (Irish Examiner, January 24).

Irish businesses must offer keener competition

Tesco, to choose one, will hardly relatively overcharge us to that extent unless Dunnes and SuperValu prices are comparable.

All stores, British and Irish, will overcharge, if the competition permits it. We need to shop around far more.

Fine Gael are to be complimented for their unusually valuable contribution to the cause of fighting national inflation.
