The Pope speaks tohis own people

TP O’MAHONY has once again displayed his intolerance for the Pope’s restatement of Catholic Doctrine on the Eucharist (The Irish Examiner, April 18). His report on Pope John Paul II’s 14th encyclical letter to the faithful is, in my view, disingenuous to say the least.

The Pope speaks tohis own people

It matters not a jot which other churches may or may not be offended by the truths as espoused by the Magisterium . What does matter is that the writings and utterances of Christ’s Vicar on Earth should be adhered to, by all the Prelates, Bishops, Priests and faithful throughout the Universal Church.

Ecumenism may suffer collateral damage from the friendly fire emanating from the Vatican but differences on the centrality of the Eucharist have been at issue between Anglicanism, Catholicism, and all the other isms for many a long year.
