column headlined “Is it the salt mines for Irish selectors?”(Irish Examiner, Sept 20). For the Irish team to travel to Russia without Mick Galwey is like Napoleon attempting to cross the Berezina without Marhsal Ney.

It seems that the selectors, after years of trial and (mostly) error, still have no idea of the greatness of ‘Gaillimh.’ This lack of commonsense at the top in the IRFU also explains why Lansdowne Road is decaying while money has been lavished on foreign mercenaries.
