Back to the Dáil starts with another holiday

ONE could be forgiven for thinking, in the light of the many problems currently besetting our country, that our elected leaders would have their noses to the grindstone as the new session of the Dáil begins.

Imagine, therefore, how appalled and disgusted I felt recently on reading that eight of our TDs, after a 14-week holiday, will have missed the first two weeks of Dáil sittings.

Instead, they will be in Australia, not on some "fact-finding" skive though that would be bad enough no, they will, in fact, be playing rugby!
