Profits of doom

FOR several years activists in various African countries have campaigned to get AIDS medicines made available at reasonable prices to the many millions of people who suffer from the virus.

After a long and bitter struggle they achieved some success and the drug companies agreed to supply the medicines at affordable prices.

It was sad therefore to read in recently that large quantities of these drugs have been intercepted and sold back into the European market for vast profits by dishonest dealers.
