Images of a true horror story
Child pornography is a billion dollar industry where children are abused, raped and tortured for profit and entertainment. As long as people are prepared to pay for such images of children, child pornography will continue to thrive and innocent children will continue to be exploited, degraded, dehumanised and abused.
So, while the RCNI welcomes the outcome of the Allen case, we still have to question if the implementation of our current legislation on child pornography is adequate.
The worth of a conviction in terms of its deterrent value must be questioned in light of the lenient sentence handed down in this instance.
Sentencing needs to reflect societal condemnation. Surely every member of Irish society recognises the gravity of such crimes and would like this mirrored in sentencing.
