Fluency is not the issue

I NOTE that the Junior Minister for European Affairs, Dick Roche, objects to people not as fluent as he supporting the campaign for the inclusion of Irish as an official EU language.

One does not have to be a fluent Irish speaker in order to support the Irish language or indeed a sensible and progressive proposal.

Hopefully, Mr Roche will adopt a less exclusive and a more democratic outlook in future.
