I AM surprised to see Ireland called a “home nation” (Irish Examiner, March 31).

Home and away

Home as opposed to what away? The term home nation is best reserved for those who still blindly believe there is a British empire across the seas. For those who realise there is not even a British empire within these islands, it's best abandoned as a jingoistic relic.
