What 'children of the nation' really means

In discussions in the media this is being misinterpreted as applying to Irish children and their rights.

It referred to the hope expressed in 1798 by the leader of the United Irishmen, Theobald Wolfe Tone, that the three strands of our nation - Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter - could come together in peace, harmony and reconciliation in a free Irish Republic.
