Poor showing from opposition parties
It is clear that the emergency action of the most vigorous sort is essential on the part of the Government. But what will be the opposition's response?
In considering the efficiency of economic planning in this context, a note of caution must be sounded. Planning is not the panacea to all our economic ills.
The stimulation on which the success of economic planning in a democracy depends is the willing assent of its citizens to what plan is decided on.
Economic planning is a small state such as ours, which is not endowed with any great industrial tradition, must organise its human and physical resources in the most effective manner possible.
What passes for political opposition in this country Fine Gael and Labour is a poor substitute.
