Skateboarding would ruin Arthur’s Quay park

THE plan by Limerick City Council to establish a skateboarding rink in Arthur’s Quay riverside park will seriously damage the image of Limerick.

Skateboarding would ruin Arthur’s Quay park

Not only is the public park unsuitable for a skateboarding rink, such a facility would seriously detract from the enjoyment visitors and locals alike take from frequenting the public park.

The park is a great meeting place for tourists and visitors and is a public amenity for senior citizens. It has wonderful views of the River Shannon and the old historic parts of Limerick including the vista of the Treaty Stone and Thomond Bridge. A skateboarding arena would ruin the very purpose of the park. It would turn the area into a place where senior citizens would not feel comfortable because of the nature of skateboarding.

The city council must rethink this short-sighted proposal and go back to the drawing board for an alternative plan to put before the people.
