Invoking God only when it suits them
Such an ethos ignores the millions of non-Christians, especially Muslims, already living in EU states, and millions more awaiting entry to the EU in Bosnia, Kosovo, Albania, Cyprus and Turkey.
It also seems a bit late for Iveagh House to be invoking God to guide Irish foreign policy. In what corner of Iveagh House was God hiding when Ireland did nothing about the human rights abuses of Saddam Hussein in his war against Iran in the 1980s, and his slaughter of Shia Muslims in Basra in 1991?
Did Iveagh House invoke God to prevent half a million children being killed by UN sanctions, supported by Ireland, between 1992 and 2003?
Was God or morality consulted or considered when Ireland allowed 50,000 US troops through Shannon airport, resulting in the deaths of more than 30,000 innocent people in Iraq this year?
May God and the victims forgive us.
