Pipers steal the show at parade to remember
Huddersfield is a town in England where up to 10,000 people can lay claim to being Irish.
Thousands lined the streets and marched as the band led ten floats, Irish dancers, majorettes and street musicians along the mile-and-a-half route.
From the first pulsating beat of the drum to the final blow of the pipe, the Millstreet pipers’ scintillating performance captivated their audience.
They also performed with Brosna Comhaltas from Co Offaly at our parade-eve concert and at our post-parade gala. In both sets the packed house was left in awe of their powerful display.
As a group of people, they conducted themselves in the best fashion, displaying courtesy, respect and gratitude to their hosts.
In short, they proved to be a class act in more ways than one.
The Irish community in Huddersfield are honoured to have met such people and the town has been enriched by the craic agus ceol brought to us in abundance by the band.
We hope to meet again as the Millstreet Pipers Band, under the guidance of Liam Coffey, are a credit to their town, county and country.
We are deeply grateful that they graced our parade.
