Let’s be honest

THE Government’s justification of their position on the war in Iraq is disingenuous, to say the least.

Let’s be honest

Firstly, they refuse to indicate what their position would be in the absence of a UN resolution authorising war.

Then, when no such resolution is forthcoming, they vote to allow the Shannon stopover to continue, but express “disappointment” at the failure of the members of the Security Council to pass the resolution (obviously, such a such a resolution would have left them off the hook!).

In attempting to justify their position the Tánaiste names the US and Britain as friends and that we should not question “their motives, their legality and their honesty” (even if many of their own citizens do so and our ‘friends’ are acting like two of the biggest bullies in the playground).

Please, do not insult our intelligence any longer: if, for economic reasons, the Government believes that it must continue to allow the use of Shannon please, admit it rather than continue with this hypocrisy.
