Time for ‘world policeman’ to take a back seat
The US is far too closely identified in Arab eyes with Israeli interests and has of course earned a great deal of hatred throughout the Islamic world in recent times by its military activities in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It would seem to be much wiser if the Israeli/Palestinian negotiations, which are going to be extremely difficult, were chaired under the auspices of the UN, or even the EU.
It is time that the self-appointed ‘world policeman’ learned that its greatest contribution to sorting out the messes that it frequently helped to create would be to stay well clear of the process and leave it to those whose hands are clean and who are likely to be free of partisanship.
