Homecare fees tax a blow to the elderly

MY mother recently returned home from four weeks' convalescence in a nursing home.

On leaving the matron suggested she have some homecare to assist with bathing and mobility.

I engaged a homecare provider and I was shocked to learn that VAT at 21% is payable on home care fees.

I understand from the matron there is no VAT on nursing home fees.

How does the Government expect elderly people needing care to stay at home when they are taking 21% of the homecare fees?

Another example of double-speak from the Government?
