GAA should tout for community projects

READING reports of some of the prices quoted for all-Ireland hurling final tickets rising to as much as €4,800, I find it upsetting to think of that money going into the pockets of touts.

I wonder if the GAA would consider the ticket distribution system which is used for some sporting occasions in the US.

It involves putting aside a limited number of tickets which could be sold on an auction basis to the highest bidder. This could be arranged in an internet auction format.

For example, if 2,000 tickets were put aside, and the prices rose to €500, this would raise €1 million. The GAA could then publish the results of the auction and the profit made.

The money should be ring-fenced and used for a number of specific projects around the country. These would also be published.

So, instead of ending up in the touts’ pockets, the money would go to worthy projects of benefit to communities around the country.
