Prisoner claims: why should we pay?

I THINK it’s a disgrace that taxpayers will have to meet claims by prisoners in our jails (Irish Examiner, August 18).

These people have broken the law and, as such, are not entitled to profit from their captivity. There are people who have worked all their lives, paid their taxes and don’t owe anything to anybody.

Yet when they look for financial assistance from the Government, they are told they do not qualify.Where is the justice there?

So much for a caring society.
