Why not show Sonia waving to her fans?

YOUR photo of Sonia O’Sullivan in tears after the women’s 5000 metres in Athens was a highly insensitive piece of journalism (Irish Examiner, August 24).

Sonia showed herself to be a true athlete by completing this race at all and the only photo you could print on the front page next day was one of Cork’s - and indeed Ireland’s - finest athletes in tears.

Have you any heart?

Sonia has done Ireland and Cork proud by representing us in no less than four Olympics. Not many of us would be able to end in 15th place in any category of the Olympics.

While your editorial and reports were excellent, you could have shown on the front page the brave woman who completed the last lap waving to her Irish supporters.

You should have afforded Sonia the space to grieve in private.
