Europe will pay a high price for the ‘No’ vote

IT SEEMS the greatest beneficiaries of the French ‘No’ vote may be Republican Americans.

In the same way that the much-cherished US constitution binds its federal authority and strengthens Washington, so the rejection of a federal EU vision weakens Brussels and ultimately will deny it superpower status. Disgruntled French unionists and new fascists came out in force to proclaim a resounding 'no' to Europe.

But they will eventually become the unemployed victims of a massive trade dispute won by the US with a little help from Britain not to mention Peter Mandelson.
