Elderly tenant struggles to make priority list

I WISH to highlight the shabby way our elderly are treated by some local authorities.

Elderly tenant struggles to make priority list

My mother had a serious accident and, as a result, has only the use of one arm. She also has diabetes and suffered two heart attacks over a two-year period. Her doctor told her she can no longer climb stairs. I have applied for a downstairs toilet for her.

She is 80-years-old and feels the draught blowing through the hall door. A council representative told her they would give her a stair-lift and shower, but they would not say when.

After two years I find this unacceptable. My mother is also in need of a door. The council told us they have a list of priorities and hope to start putting in doors in a few years.

I know young people who have had PVC doors, windows and central heating installed.

The council put my rent up €15 in one hike a 50% increase. They have put three large shrubberies on the hill beside my house. Is the council telling us the elderly come after younger tenants and shrubberies?
